About us

Set up as a youth music project in 1990 by local volunteers, Beatroute has developed to become an established, flourishing community-led charity, offering free, high-quality programmes of activity which span a wide variety of arts-based subjects such as music tuition and workshops, group music making, song-writing, music production, visual arts, gardening, drama, cookery and yoga.

Beatroute works closely in partnership with local organisations and schools in our community to offer activities which respond directly to identified need, aiming to alleviate lack of free learning provision, mental and physical ill health brought about by poor living standards and social isolation. In addition, Beatroute also works in partnership with national organisations and networks to create tangible links across Scotland, increasing opportunities for Beatroute’s members.

It’s our vision to create a fair, safe and non-judgemental creative learning environment in which local people of all ages and backgrounds can participate without prejudice, improving future prospects and overall quality of life for each individual and for the wider community.

It is the ongoing commitment of Beatroute Arts to provide a wide range of inclusive arts and holistic activities for our community here in Balornock, co-produced alongside local people in response to identified themes and priorities.

Beatroute Arts is committed to working in partnership with voluntary and public sector organisations to develop and maintain excellent community services locally, and to promote the vital importance of inclusive community arts practice at a city-wide and National level.

Youth programme

Beatroute Arts offers a range of free, creative opportunities for young people from Balornock, Barmulloch and across the Springburn/Robroyston area. Running in the early evening Monday-Thursday throughout the term-time, activities take place in a fun, social space and include music tuition (drums, guitar, piano, singing, ukulele, violin, cello) and music workshops (including musicianship, ensemble playing, songwriting, sound production and more). Our activities are shaped by the needs and interests of our young members, and the regular activity schedule is often complimented by additional creative activities. Recent activities have included visual arts, gardening, dance, drama, and cookery.

Beatroute also regularly offers activities throughout school holidays, dependent on available funding and will update members throughout the year. To be kept up to date, please join our mailing list.

Age groups and times vary dependent on activity; please see activity schedule for more info.
